DC wins back-to-back Miss USA titles

Kára McCullough, a chemist who works for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is crowned Miss USA on Sunday at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on the Las Vegas Strip. She will go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest. McCullough was born in Naples, Italy, but raised in Virginia Beach, Va. Last year’s winner, District of Columbia resident Deshauna Barber, places the crown on her head. Barber was the first-ever military member to win Miss USA.
